Dear Dr. Schiffer and Michael:
I just wanted to let you know that, as I have recently passed my 2-year anniversary
of my C4-5 and C5-6 CED, I am doing extremely well. It seems that every day
brings more and more improvement. Although I will never be the same as I was
prior to the herniations, I believe that I am functioning at the very best
I can be and I am extremely pleased. I feel that it was a blessing that I was
able to find you to do the surgery and I am so happy that I chose the CED procedure
instead of a fusion.
Currently, I'm back at work and working way too many hours (if you ask my husband).
I am able to walk without shoulder and neck discomfort on the treadmill 1-2
miles 2-3 times/week. I have almost full range of motion in my neck (I can
turn my neck to see behind me when I back up the car). And no one knows that
I had neck surgery unless I tell them about it. I only wish that other physicians
would realize the importance of this important surgical option and refer more
patients for the procedure.
This fall, my husband, Bob, and I took our Harleys and we rode all the way
to Branson, Missouri and back! All total was 5,500 miles! Other than some minor
muscle spasms in my shoulder, I did fine. And the spasms weren't anything that
a little rest and a massage couldn't help. Attached are a couple of pictures
that we took while on the road.
I want to thank you, again, for returning me to as near as normal functioning
as possible, so that I could get back on my bike and ride.
Sincerely,
